Title: A Study of Categorical Re-correspondence in Chinese-English Translation from the Perspective of Cognitive Linguistics
Abstract: The present article examines the categorical re-correspondence on the lexical, the syntactic and the textual levels in Chinese-English translation. Based on cognitive linguistics, it is assumed that the horizontal dimension of a category is concerning the radial relationship between prototypes and non-prototypes while the vertical dimension reveals the up-down structuring of the basic-level category, the superordinate category and the subordinate category. It is found that the categorical re-correspondence is sometimes indispensable to realizing both faithfulness and expressiveness in translation. The paper concludes by claiming that the present research is of help to translation studies, cognitive linguistics and foreign language teaching in China.
