Title: Visualization Analysis of the Translation of Journey to the West (1980-2018): Based on CiteSpace

Abstract: This paper explores developments in the translation of Journey to the West on the basis of 311 scholarly papers from 1980 to 2018 adopted from Chinese Knowledge Network Database (CNKI). The purpose of this paper is to deal with the current potential problems, development, and highlights in the translation of Journey to the West using CiteSpace 5.0, which is an academic software used to analyze scientific knowledge map. Through the visual analysis of key words and terms collected from those academic papers, this research touches upon the number of papers published, research highlights, research directions as well as lexical clustering in the translation of Journey to the West. The findings indicate that the researches in the translation of Journey to the West mainly focus on translation strategies which are constrained only in traditional linguistic perspective, and that it is rare, moreover, to research the translation of this classical masterpiece from the perspective of interdisciplinary. Future research can be conducted in cultural communication and corpus research beyond the traditional perspectives and linguistic.
