Title: A Review of Toury’s Model for Translation Description
Abstract: In the late 20th century, Gideon Toury invested erudite attempts in how to describe translation which is taken as a focal point and pivot of descriptive translation studies. Starting from the general conception about descriptive translation studies envisioned by Holmes, combined with his own rich practice in translation description, Toury put forward a systematic means of comparing ST and TT from the perspective of the polysystem theory so that he formulated a target-oriented model for translation description. This essay presents a detailed introduction to Toury’s model and a review of its merits and deficiencies.
