Title: Exegesis and Textual Criticism of Chinese Classics of Translation Discourse: A Case Study of An Anthology of Chinese Discourse on Translation (V. 2)

Abstract: Chinese classics of translation discourse refers to Chinese historical works on translation. The English translation of Chinese classics of translation discourse is an important part of telling Chinas story to the world. However, Chinese translation discourses are buried in a large quantity of documents and their expressions are not straightforward, which makes translating into English difficult. We propose that an in-depth examination and exegesis should be adopted in the translation and translation research on these classics. This paper applies word, phrase, and sentence exegesis to the English translations in An Anthology of Chinese Discourse on Translation (V. 2), offering historical, linguistic, and cultural perspectives to translation examples. Through the exegetical explorations of the existing English version of Chinese classics of translation discourse, the paper provides a reference for future English renditions.
